You own a 2CV
and like to travel long distances, to other countries or even around
the world, without the fear of being stranded in case of a breakdown?
Let's face it - having a breakdown is the least
thing you want to experience. Ordinary workshops are mostly of no
help. Even many Citroën garages don't know about the 2CV anymore.
So in an emergency you can only rely on other 2CV people. The only
problem is to find fellow 2CV people. Wouldn't it be wonderful to have
a comprehensive list of 2CV owners around the world willing to help in
an emergency? This idea was transformed into the "APUA-Help".
Since 1975 the Finnish 2CV Guild, which is the national 2CV club in
Finland, has published the international 2CV Road Service Booklet
APUA-HELP. The Finnish word "APUA" stands for "Help".
The booklet quickly became a comprehensive list of 2CV friends from
all over the world (almost 1000 helpers from 36 countries in the last
issue!). Everyone included is willing to help fellow 2CV friends who
are in trouble or doubt. The help is given on a volunteer basis in the
true 2CV spirit.
If you own a 2CV, you should never leave home without your copy of
APUA-HELP. The original idea was to have an extensive list of people
willing to help in a technical emergency. But quickly the booklet was
appreciated in a different manner.
Technical help isn't the main thing anymore. It is already a big help
if you know someone who can help - or simply know where to obtain
spare parts.
This booklet is a great way to meet 2CV people from around the world,
who are traveling or spend their vacation in your area.
It is also very appreciated if you can act as a tourist guide and
show 2CV friends the highlights of your area.
Many lasting friendships resulted from contacts via this list over
the last 25 years. (I speak here from personal experience!)
When you enter your name and address, you give additional information
about what you would like to do:
- (A) Can you give technical support, i.e.
can you help fixing a 2CV or do you know a workshop capable of
fixing a 2CV
- (B) Can you supply spare parts, or do you
have a source for new or used spare parts
- (C) Can you tow a stranded 2CV to your
place or to a workshop
- (D) Do you know where the 2CV friend may
spend a night for an economic price
- (E) Are you willing to show the
interesting places in your area to other 2CV friends
For everything you are able
and willing to do, you can check the corresponding field in the
entry-form.
You can enter your name in the Apua-Help free of charge but if you
would like to receive a copy of APUA-HELP 2005-2006, please mail about
5 EUR in cash in a letter to the Finnish 2CV Guild (or equivalent in
any other currency - No checks, please).
Another way to obtain a copy is to pick it up at the 2CV World
Meeting in Scotland.
The APUA-HELP is distributed to 2CV friends all over the world for
the next 2 years.
If you have been listed before, you still need to re-apply for every
new edition, as you will not go automatically in. Indicate the type of
help you are willing to give.
Let's hope for a great response again, especially from countries with
a low number of helpers in the last issue!
